Kristen Bell‘s dog Barbara has died after contracting an intestinal infection.
The Good Place actress shared the news on her Instagram story, with a photo of her pup wrapped in a blanket.
“Our beautiful @barbarabiscuits got sick this weekend,” Bell captioned the pic. “Vet diagnosed Giardia, and it looked like for a while like Barb was gonna pull through. Even though Barb is a (gorgeous) fighter, she’s gone septic and her lil body doesn’t look like it’s gonna pull through.”
Bell also posted a selfie with Barbara on their final day together. “On our way now to say goodbye,” she wrote. “Trying to stay super grateful for the 2 years we got to spoil her like the Queen that she is.”
Bell and her family adopted Barbara, a one-eyed puppy, two years ago.
She also uploaded a photo of her daughter patting Barbara at the vet. “We love you Barbara,” she wrote.
The actress has two daughters with husband Dax Shepard: Lincoln, 7 and Delta, 5.
Finally, the Frozen star thanked The Dog Cafe in Los Angeles for “bringing her into our lives.”
The news comes just a few days after Bell and Shepard opened up about how his struggle with addiction has affected their family. Last month, Shepard relapsed after 16 years of sobriety and has been discussing his experiences on his podcast “Armchair Expert.”
The A-list couple has taken the opportunity to teach their two kids about gratitude. The Alcoholics Anonymous 12-step addiction recovery program encourages participants to focus on things they’re grateful for — a practice Bell and Shepard have introduced to their daughters.
“As soon as you start the day, there’s the three blessings, there’s a lot of different traditions that incorporate a morning gratitude list,” Shepard explained.
“It has a huge impact on me and it seems to work for the kids as well.”
Bell added: “I am shocked at how into that our girls have gotten.”
