The Brooklyn techno scene is bubbling with new and hungry artists. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic halting nearly everything, producers are busy in studios and livestreams creating and sharing their latest tracks. One such producer is Saint Velez who just released a new three track EP.

The ‘LEO Chronicles’ is the producer’s latest release with label De-Konstruct. On it, Saint Velez displays some massive and bold strides in both technical improvement and creative growth. The first track “Let Them Have It” is a prime example of this evolution. The song has these daunting kicks and overwhelming hi-hats mixed over this perpetual, growling synth. Progressive elements are present in the breakdown as the appearance of a higher-pitched synth pulls listeners out of the menacing rhythm. But it’s not long before Saint Velez throws the listener right back into the evil banger he’s concocted.

This dark and illicit nature is carried throughout the rest of the EP. The song “Everything” is a drone techno track that’s repetition is its fiercest strength. The song feels like a dark spell casting warehouse rhythm directly into every joint of the body commanding it to follow the groove. Meanwhile, “Obscure References” does the same with a more varied approach. Shifting gears in acid techno, Saint Velez takes the 303 into the darkest places the genre can take it. It’s a fast, unrelenting track that any techno fan can hop on and get right away.

It’s no surprise why Saint Velez is grabbing the techno scene’s attention after hearing an EP like this. His tracks are already receiving major support from the genre’s giants like Enrico Sangiuliano, Marco Faraone, Julian Juweil, and many more. In just two years, Saint Velez has positioned himself as one of 2021’s artist to watch.
