After it was announced that Democratic nominee Joe Biden had won the US election, social media was – of course – flooded with memes in celebration.
A lot of people have been sharing clips of Biden’s appearances on the TV show Parks And Recreation. The show’s main character, Leslie Knope, was obsessed with Biden and had a giant crush on him, a fact that was mentioned repeatedly through its seven seasons.
Biden actually made two cameo appearances on the show, back when he was Vice President. These videos are now resurfacing online, with fans exclaiming just how excited Leslie Knope would be after his victory.
US ELECTION LIVE UPDATES: Trump campaign insists race ‘far from over’
In the season finale, set in 2017, Knope, played by Amy Poehler, stands in front of the White House with her husband Ben. “2020,” she says, referring to the election she plans to win to become President. When Ben says that’s a bit of a stretch, she settles on 2024. In the next scene, Knope is seen meeting Biden inside the White House.
Fans are lovingly retweeting this video, like it was an omen of Biden’s win. “Just watched this for the 10th time, still gives me the feels,” one person wrote.
In fact, ‘Leslie Knope’ began trending on Twitter just after the news of Biden’s victory was reported.
One person wrote on Twitter: “Somewhere, Leslie Knope is exploding with joy right now”, along with a GIF of Knope trying to kiss Biden.
Another said: “Has anyone checked in on Leslie Knope?,” while countless others shared photos of the scene where Leslie says “This isn’t real,” over and over while meeting Biden.
Amy Poehler doesn’t have social media, but her brand ‘Amy Poehler’s smart girls’ Instagram account reposted the video of Vice President Elect Kamala Harris speaking to Joe Biden on the phone about their win.
